Completing Travel Health Consultations

Learn to use MedEssist’s built-in tools to quickly generate or submit travel health prescriptions.

1. Click "Review" next to the patient/appointment to open documentation.

2. Review the patient questionnaire, watching for any yellow or red flags. Most fields are pre-filled by the patient but can be edited by the pharmacist as needed.

3. Click "Resources" to access helpful tools and references for your clinical assessment and decision-making.

4. Choose action taken:

  • Pharmacist is prescribing Rx—you are issuing the prescription(s) directly under your licence (where applicable).
  • Requesting RX from consulting provider—you are submitting prescription recommendations for a physician to review and issue (e.g., family healthcare provider, through MDConnected).

5. Select all conditions needing prescriptions.

6. Use the drop-down menu to select from recommended therapies, or enter your own in the free-text field.

7. Under Communication to Provider, select from the drop-down menu:

  • Primary care provider will be notified – choose this to eFax
  • Primary care provider will not be notified – provide a reason
  • Patient does not have a primary care provider
  • Recommendation will be submitted to virtual provider – select this if using MDConnected

8. Include any OTC recommendations as needed

9. Click "Finalize" once documentation is complete.

10. Click "Confirm" to attach your digital signature.

11. Click "View", then "Prescriber Notification" to eFax prescription recommendations to the patient's primary care provider

12. Click "Print/Copy/Fax" to print, save, or share documentation.
